Post image for Google Wave – 10 less Common Uses & Upgrades

There has been a number of articles and blog post about “What Google Wave can be used for” (My favorites are in my Delicious). I have a few suggestions myself. I am sure others have already mentioned some of these, but I have not seen them or been able to find any instances of the key words in with:public. These uses and upgrades are in no specific order and I am assuming that anyone who reads this has a little understanding of Wave and where it is right now.

I understand that most of the following subjects would be private and not be available in the with:public timeline. I do think though, if these uses were being utilized, there would be some conversation of them somewhere within with:public though.

10 less common Uses

1. Game Pots or Wagering, you could use a Wave to take bets for a particular game, series or pool. Not that I support illegal activity on Wave just an idea for those areas that its legal.

2. Municipalities could use a Wave to Redline proposed project plans. This way the additions could be communicated to the architect/engineer and actually end up on the final field sets and in the electronic file

3. Create Public, Bio/profile-Specific directories for social tools and sites. I have attempted this with Twitter for Construction Management, It didn’t work all that well!

4. CRM, Keep a running dialog with your customers on a specific project, transaction or product. At this point in Wave, this is difficult, unless your customer is fairly handy with computers. Once the Wave Notification Extension is complete you can respond to a blip on your cell phone, this would be nice for responding to questions.

5. Field Notes & Punch List – add quick field notes or trade specific punch items to a Wave for a particular project. Give the appropriate Trade person access to the Wave and keep a running dialog of items in need of repair. For those of you that have your customers do the final punch, this would be a great way to have them document their items for repair.

6. Proof Print Projects – Place drafts of print project on a Wave and work with the client on the edit and proof. My sister  owns a print shop and this process (in my opinion) could be streamlined with a Wave type product.

7. Android Market / I phone app Store – Like Amazon has already done; direct clients to apps for Android/I Phone on a Wave or Build an Extension. This may be a feature upgrade, but I would love to be able to place apps on a Wave to direct a client to the useful tools that work with their phones, relating to our business together.

8. Draft Legal Documents – I’m sure this has been mentioned somewhere, but I have had a conversation with an attorney that really was exited about Wave for this purpose.

9. Loan Modifications – Have you ever attempted to modify your mortgage? well, if the answer is Yes! And you are aware of Wave, you understand! For those of you that are not aware of the Modification Process, It is the most fragmented, unorganized conversation and exchange of documents you could imagine!

10. Wedding/Event Planning – For those of us that are already married, this is probably useless.  If you are about to be or will be someday, tell your planner to start a Wave. Or heck, if you are a Wedding/Event  Planner, invite your clients to Wave.

Upgrades to Wave or Extensions, I could use Now!

1. Integration with Google Docs or Microsoft Document Package.

2. Access on my Google Android Phone – I’m not sure I understand the lack of this feature. It seems that all the energy is being directed to the I Phone. Anyone with more insight on this, I would like to hear from you.

3. Integration with Google Voice.

4. Tele- Conference, dial-in Bridge – This could be linked with Google Voice. I see a lot of potential with this ability.

5. Wave Directory or Tie to Bio-specific social tools. Example: Twitter users who use with:public or Linked-in users who      Wave.

6. Share in a with:public Wave button for my blog posts or others that I like. This would be a great promotion and conversation tool. I know that this can be done now, but I find the steps involved to be somewhat manual and confusing.

Hopefully these are all original, If not, Sorry. If you will send me a link I will add it to this post or you can do the same in comments. Cheers and happy Waving !

Karl, Good suggestions. I’m thinking that there has to be simpler, cheaper, construction coordination solutions, for the small contractor, than purchasing an expensive construction management program. I was checking out Google Docs for that purpose and ran across your post
